Forms of hosting solutions

A hosting service means keeping and/or sharing particular web content on a server administered by a web hosting company. There are different kinds of hosting services used for various purposes, so let's have a glance at them. Thus, you can elect what you want, depending on whether you desire to own a site, emails, or to share files with buddies and colleagues.

- File hosting: a service furnished by some vendors, which lets you share large files. These could be disk images, motion pictures, audio files, archives, etc. This solution is also known as file storage, and its sole objective is to share files, since it does not offer site uploading. As soon as the files are uploaded, you will either get a randomly created download link for each of them, or you will be able to explore a register of all the files in a directory, but you will not be able to open .html or .php website files in your browser. Free-of-cost file hosting solutions are often supported by displaying adverts by the download links, while a timer obliges you to await a particular period of time to observe them. A given file can be downloaded with restricted speed. If you buy a paid file storage account, there are no limitations as to how many files you can upload/download immediately, and also there is no limit in regard to the download speed or the file size.

At the moment, with the assistance of the cPanel hosting distributors, "file hosting" is being renamed to the more modish "cloud hosting". This is an entirely unsuitable interpretation of the literal meaning of "cloud hosting". A real cloud website hosting system would divide the workload between separate groups of web hosting servers in a cluster, which are dedicated to attending different hosting services (electronic mail, storage space, stats, DNS, databases, web page hosting CP, and so on.) So, the file hosting solution is only a sort of a disk storage hosting service, not a cloud hosting one. It's not even near.

- Image hosting: akin to file hosting; certain suppliers provide a hosting service for images exclusively. This hosting kind is appropriate if you want to share a big number of pictures with pals or acquaintances since the solution is usually free of cost. You will receive a randomly generated link for each picture or album and you can subsequently share this link. As with the file hosting service, .html and .php files are not compatible, so the service cannot be utilized for websites.

- E-mail hosting: a solution devoted to managing your emails. Some providers offer web page hosting solutions for web pages, but do not supply an email service. If you want to get an email address with your domain name but do not desire to keep a site, then the email hosting solution is what you want. You can set up email mailbox accounts and manage them, but there will be no hosting service for the domains. The email hosting solution involves incoming POP/IMAP and outgoing SMTP mail servers.

- Video hosting: this solution enables you to upload and share video files. You can either share a link to some video file, or you can embed the video in your site that is hosted somewhere else. The advantage of availing of this approach in lieu of uploading the video clip in a web hosting account is that the video file generates a specific amount of CPU load, so with several video files and a few hundred web site visitors, you may have a problem with your site hosting quotas. Embedding the video will allow you to run as many videos as you want to without hassling about system resources.

- Web page hosting: this is the service that you need if you would like to own a website. To a certain extent, it comprises all of the aforesaid hosting forms since, along with your websites, you can also host pictures and files, you can set up databases and e-mails, upload video clips, etc. At JVDVAL, for instance, you can take a look at web hosting and dedicated web server hosting accounts that allow you to get all of the aforesaid services in a single location. There may be limitations depending on the form of hosting service that you've settled on - a free hosting package, a paid shared hosting account, a VPS or a dedicated server. Depending on that, your website hosting plan may be better or worse juxtaposed to the standard email/file/video/image hosting plans that are intended for specific web content solely.
